CGRateS real-time charging & rating

A traditional biller rates calls after they finish, reading CDRs and applying rates in batch. That is fine for many resellers, but it cannot stop a prepaid subscriber from overspending mid-session, and it cannot authorize usage in real time. CGRateS is an online charging system: it authorizes, rates, and debits balances during the event itself, with sub-millisecond decisions and forced disconnect when funds are exhausted.

For carriers, MVNOs, and platforms rating high volumes of voice, SMS, and data, that real-time control is not a luxury — it is the difference between charging accurately and carrying usage you can never collect on.

CGRateS is built in Go as a set of modular subsystems — SessionS, RALs, CDRs, RouteS, AttributeS, and more — that can run together on one node or as distributed services behind DispatcherS. Backed by Redis for fast data and PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB for storage, it scales horizontally to the throughput your traffic demands rather than hitting the ceiling a single PHP-based biller runs into.

CGRateS speaks the protocols your infrastructure already uses: agents for Diameter (Gy and Ro online charging), Radius, and HTTP/JSON let it slot into an existing OCS, BSS, or 3GPP-style architecture, while SessionS connects to Asterisk via AMI/ARI, to FreeSWITCH via the event socket, and to Kamailio or OpenSIPS. That means CGRateS becomes part of your stack rather than an island beside it.
